Collaborative Protocol for Violent Threat Risk Assessment for Renfrew County

Review and re-signing the VTRA Protocol

(Renfrew County) This media release is to increase awareness of the collaborative protocol for Violent Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA) among school boards, 12 community agencies, and local police services in Renfrew County. We are committed to making our schools and community safer. The VTRA protocol was initiated in 2013, and is designed to be a proactive strategy for responding to all behaviors that pose a potential risk of violence with a focus on creating supportive intervention plans that address the emotional and physical safety of those involved. The model for VTRA reflects the thinking and work of J. Kevin Cameron, Director of the Canadian Centre for Threat Assessment and Trauma Response.

In 2020, a review of the protocol was undertaken and a re-signing of the protocol by school boards, community agencies, and local police services in Renfrew County. As part of the protocol, the Renfrew County VTRA committee is committed to ensuring training opportunities are available and provided locally to partner agencies.
