Addressing Trauma and Attachment in the Classroom Environment
February 9 @ 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Are you an educator or clinical staff in an academic setting?
If you answered, yes this training could be for you.
“Addressing Trauma and Attachment in the Classroom Environment” returns next month.
Teaching children who come into our spaces with big stories can be challenging. When we do not know how to respond, we often fall back to unhelpful patterns of managing behaviours. This can have individuals feeling lost in how to respond. It can also impact an individual’s own sense of competence. Research has demonstrated that a relationship first approach can positively impact across the lifespan.
This training strives to provide alternatives to behaviour first approach and supports the importance of taking a deeper look at what is beneath the behaviour.
Using an attachment and trauma informed approach, this training strives to provide alternatives to behaviour first approach and supports the importance of taking a deeper look at what is beneath the behaviour. This is not about throwing structure, and expectations out the window, but rather an emphasis on the importance of merging those elements with the relationship into the structured environments. Participants will also gain an increased appreciation for their own attachment stories and how they have shaped the individuals they are today.
Learning Outcomes
- Define trauma and discuss the impact trauma can have on children.
- Describe attachment theory, and the importance of attachment throughout the lifespan.
- Recognize the impact our own trauma story can have on the children we support.
- Examine brain development (neurobiology), and the role it plays in children with big trauma stories.
- Identify the different ways trauma and attachment can present itself in the classroom.
- Apply the principles of PACE and discuss implementation in the classroom setting.
