Makwa Spirit Wellness Lodge
The Makwa Spirit Wellness Lodge at the Phoenix Centre is a warm and welcoming place for all Indigenous peoples within the community. The space will allow Indigenous People to receive support and to be able to use sacred medicines while on their journey.
The Lodge embraces Indigenous ways of well-being to support communities, present and future generations through inclusive services with a focus on wholistic healing, wellness, and Indigenous culture.
This Sacred Space is rooted in traditional Indigenous values and beliefs to encourage and foster the healing, rebuilding, and strengthening of Indigenous families and communities including their spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical well-being.
At the heart of the Phoenix Centre’s mission is the acknowledgment of the profound knowledge and rich heritage carried by the Indigenous Peoples. The establishment of this cultural room stems from the recognition of the essential need for safe and culturally rich spaces for Indigenous communities.
The meticulous planning and careful consideration of every detail were integral to the establishment of this space. Each piece within the room has been thoughtfully selected from Indigenous businesses and artists, fostering an environment of inclusivity, connection, and reflection.
We extend an open invitation to all members of our community to visit this extraordinary space. Whether you choose to relax in our comfortable chairs, immerse yourself in Indigenous literature, admire the stunning artwork, socialize with friends, or simply find a moment of quiet contemplation, the Indigenous space is for everyone. Join us in celebrating the richness of Indigenous culture at the Phoenix Centre.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
As guests, The Phoenix Centre for Children and Families would like to begin by acknowledging that we are gathered here today on the traditional, unceded, and unsurrendered territory of the Algonquin People. This acknowledgement should not function as closure, or acceptance of the past or present, but should spark a desire to learn about the true history of this country and provoke thought, reflection, and positive change. We would like to recognize and respect the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples of Canada who have lived on Turtle Island for generations and who we have chosen to walk our journey alongside, toward reconciliation.
