Strengthening Families for Parents and Youth

Strengthening Families for Parents and Youth (SFPY) is a program dedicated to help improve the relationships between parents and youth, who are the between the ages of 12-17.
What is SFPY?
A program dedicated to helping improve the relationships between parents and teens, who are between the ages of 12-17
Why it works:
It incorporates the use of group activities and discussion to help facilitate a better understanding between parents/guardians and youth.
For parents/guardians: the sessions address
-New ways of approaching old problems
-Communication styles
-Ways to empower parents/guardians to help change their relationship with their youth
-How to use positive reinforcement effectively
– How to clearly state expectations
Duration:
Consists of 9 weekly sessions
What is included in a session:
-A dinner is prepared for everyone to enjoy
-There is a meeting for groups of parents/guardians and youth separately as well as a collective meeting with everyone at the end
For teens the sessions incorporate the 5 E’s model: The 5 E’s model is used to ensure teens will be engaged, participate and can learn in a fun and meaningful way.
