New Horizons Day Treatment presents educational opportunities to at risk youth in grades 6-8. The classroom, which is located in Pembroke, can accommodate up to 10 youth. The program operates within a cognitive behavioural framework, using a family system model, and utilizes both individual and group programming.
Approaches used with clients of the New Horizons Day Treatment Program adhere to the four core values of the Day Treatment program. Themes that may form the basis of client programming and goal planning include:
- Learning (academic development)
- Empowerment
- Social/life skills development
- Self-awareness/development
- Career education
All students will be provided with an education that is in accordance with the Ontario Educational Curriculum. The academic components are individualized and based on the youth’s grade level and learning abilities. The youth will participate in clinical skill development groups each week.
