We are excited to share that the Phoenix Centre for Children and Families, Lead Agency for child and youth mental health in Renfrew County has asked the Pembroke Regional Hospital (PRH) to consider amalgamation of the Phoenix Centre’s services.

Through amalgamation, these services would become part of Mental Health Services of Renfrew County, a program of the Pembroke Regional Hospital. The Phoenix Centre believes that amalgamation will provide the best way forward for providing competitive compensation and benefits for its staff while continuing to deliver all its services in the most effective way to its clients and families.

Mental Health Services of Renfrew County is a county-wide community mental health program under the administration of PRH which offers mental health and substance use services to individuals age 16 and up who are experiencing serious mental illness or mental health challenges. Mental Health Services of Renfrew County delivers a range of community-based, recovery-oriented services.

The Phoenix Centre for Children and Families is a community-based child and youth mental health program which supports children and youth aged 17 and under, who are experiencing emotional and behavioural challenges, along with their families.

The Phoenix Centre and PRH believe that amalgamation will be an opportunity to deliver better care in a better way for children, youth, families and our health care workers. For example, better care for youth who age into adult services and for children, youth and families who need care from more than one type of service. Amalgamation will also better support our health care workers, with competitive pay and benefits.

In order to ensure a seamless transition for those we serve, all services will continue delivery in existing locations, with the same contact numbers; registration process; and documentation systems under the designation “The Phoenix Centre for Children and Families of Pembroke Regional Hospital”. Opportunities for process and technology improvement will be assessed collectively going forward.

The Phoenix Centre and PRH are reaching out today to inform key partners and stakeholders about this decision as part of the amalgamation process. Once this process is complete, a proposal will be submitted to the Minister of Health for final approval.
