Unveiling the new Makwa Spirit Wellness Lodge

The Phoenix Centre is thrilled to unveil the new name of our Cultural Lodge: the Makwa Spirit Wellness Lodge!

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Willow Chartrand, a remarkable 12-year-old member of the Pine Creek First Nation in Manitoba for inspiring this meaningful name.

In appreciation of her contribution, Willow received a basket full of goodies!

In Ojibwe, “Makwa” means bear. In the 7 grandfather teachings the bear is courage.

Bear “has strength and natural ability to overcome challenges . . . It’s believed that the Bear calls us to awaken the potential within ourselves and to stand up for what we believe in.” It takes courage to ask for help and to take the healing journey.

Spirit is for the light we all have inside of us.

Welcome to Makwa Spirit Wellness Lodge – a sanctuary of healing!
